The American economy needs to be restructured out of its current addiction with consumption and become a productive powerhouse in a variety of sectors. Right now across the planet, there is a rise in demand for agricultural products, energy, and technological innovation; these are products that the American economy still has an upper hand over other Nations; and by exporting these American assets, the US economy can witness a faster turn around than most people think possible.
But this can only occur if the monstrous consumer/service driven economy is allowed to shrink and people are left with no choice but to move into newer jobs in other parts of the country. Historically, the Americans have been great migrants constantly moving around the looking for new opportunities. They will have to rediscover that dormant adventurous spirit if they hope to maintain their living standard in the new world economic order! I contend that the new opportunities right now are far away from the sprawling glitters of the Eastern financial centers but rather in the wild and rough environments of mid-America. To be successful in the near future, Americans ( and millions of others across the world) will have to abandon their office jobs and relearn the values of agricultures, energy production, and technological innovations.
New cities in the center of the country will become economic powerhouses while the eastern coastal cities will have to adapt to the new economic paradigm or suffer long years of painful decay.
