We tend to ignore socio-political affairs and focus rather on the financial and economic sides of the markets. This is a wishful form of ignorance due partly to our conviction that political affairs are based, in general, on a conscious manipulation by the State and the elites while the market on the other hand is a clearing mechanism that provide individuals with clear informations about their present and future needs. Deception is the essence of the political institution, while " servicing" one's fellow man is the foundation of a sound market economy; consequently, we believe that the least political a society, the better off the individuals.
However, there are some developments that cannot be ignored, especially at a juncture of time when the world is in serious trouble and millions of people around the world have the power of picking a candidate they deem to represent their best interests. I tend to believe that one of the major flaw with democracy is its inherent moral hazard; for, it is a system that encourages the transfer individual responsibilities away from "the person" to a supposedly elected representative that has managed to paint himself as the one person on earth who can fix everybody's problems. This fallacious representation can be extremely dangerous in periods of crisis when people have lost trust in their elected officials and are scouring the political map for a game changer... An Adolf Hitler for example!
Let's not forget that this great criminal was democratically elected by the German people who, after the defeat in World War one and the great hyperinflation of 1922 had lost all faith in their political system.
As millions of people across the planet are seeing their savings dwindle, their jobs and retirements vanish, along with their leadership corruption, turning to religious extremists and fascists might become a new normal! A great thinker once said that: " Those who do not learn from history are meant to repeat it"; and I can assert from my own limited perspective and understanding that there are a lot of development in today's macro-political and economic landscape that resemble the events of the 20s and 30s!
I do not like the way the world is going, not at all!
" A newspaper survey indicates that Marine Le Pen, the leader of France’s extreme right wing National Front (FN), might be able to win the first round of the presidential election next year.
The online poll placed Marine, who succeeded her father Jean-Marie as FN chief in January, in first place with 23 percent of the vote, putting her ahead of all other likely candidates.
President Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist leader Martine Aubry received 21 percent."
France, like many Western Nation has a long history of love with collectivist fascists. The Vichy administration of the 30s had collaborated with the German occupants in attacking the Jewish minorities and others non desirable who were thought to be the causes of all the country, albeit all Europe, trouble at the time. As the West and France in particular is seeing its economy fall and its global standings shrink against Asia's rise, blaming immigrants and religious minorities might return to the forefront of the political map. The FN is reputed for its racist anti-immigration standings and this survey clearly show that more and more French are looking for another Marechal Petain!
